After twenty-five years working for the postal service, my dad has finally decided to go ahead and retire. He’s been living here up north all his life and he’s gotten pretty tired of the ice, snow, and cold temperatures. Every year when the weather starts cooling off, my dad gets into a bad mood and he stays that way until the spring. He says that cold temperatures make him crabby, and I believe him! He keeps talking about moving south whenever he retires, but I have always thought that he was just blowing smoke. Then last week, I found out that he has made an offer on a house and he’s moving next month when he retires! I can’t believe it, but he’s super excited about it and so I am happy for him. He told me that he’s most excited about the fact that he’s probably never going to have to pay another heating bill for as long as he lives. In the part of the country where he’s moving, it’s considered a cold snap if the temperature dips below 75 degrees. My dad says that he’s really looking forward to using an air conditioning system for once in his life instead of constantly making sure that his furnace is running correctly. I’m really going to miss him, but I know that he will like living where the weather is always warm and sunny. I am kind of jealous of him, to be honest. He told me that he was moving on the same day that we were getting a new oil furnace installed in our house. It just made me realize that I’m going to be stuck paying high heating bills throughout this winter, too!
